Vasilopita, according to a Greek custom, is the name of a pie made on New Year's Eve. It has a gold coin inside which, according to tradition, will bring good luck to whoever finds it. Just before midnight, when the change of the year is about to happen, the lights go out and everyone counts down from ten to one and when the lights are back on, they wish each other Happy New Year. Vasilopita comes onto the table where the host, after crossing it with a knife 3 times, begins to cut it.

How my family celebrates the New Year
This is how we celebrate the New Year as a family. First, let's agree on who we will invite for the most cheerful night. We prepare gifts (adults) and packages (children) for all present. Invited guests arrive at our place around 8 pm. We dine with a rich table and a beautifully set table. We play family games, watch TV...Around midnight the countdown 10.9, 8...0 and rejoicing begins. Exactly at midnight when Nova comes in, we kiss and congratulate each other. We wish good health, love, happiness, new arrivals... And then we happily go out on the terrace and watch the fireworks.

A roasted pig is placed on the table because it is believed that the pig brings good luck into the house.
A large number of customs and beliefs are related to the last day of the old year and January 1 of the new year. Do not enter with unpaid bills, debts or loans; if babies are born in your family on January 1, it is believed that "children will be happy"; welcome the New Year with a full fridge; make a lot of noise; don't take anything out of the house on January 1st; start doing something, put on some new things for New Year's Eve - necessarily some detail in red; don't break anything on the first of January, and don't cry.

According to beliefs, loud noises, bagpipes and singing drive away the troubles of the New Year. By opening the doors and windows, we banish sorrow, so all the things that oppress and hurt us leave our home.
What we do on the first day of the year determines our entire year.
